Hugo Ostro, a local artist, takes flight with his EP “Turbulences”

From his room

For him it all started at six years old, with music lessons. “I started thanks to my parents, they wanted me to do a cultural activity. Initially, I did African percussion in a music school in Toulouse. When we moved here, I did Cuban percussion for two years, but nothing serious. »

In sixth grade, he moved on to learning the guitar, a real turning point. Very quickly, he developed the desire to create songs rather than reproduce them. About ten years of lessons at the Tyrosse conservatory, a few poems and an amateur project at university further on, Hugo Ostro is thinking about getting started.

On stage

“For eighteen years I made music as a hobby. While finishing my master’s degree I wanted to take a break. I gave myself a year to get started. That year, I recorded a single and had the opportunity to record my EP the following year. Now it’s been almost two years and since then I’ve been a winner of the XL Tour (1),” he says.

On July 7, he will perform as the opening act for Mentissa and Féfé at the Essentiel festival in Vieux-Boucau and at Musicalarue in Luxey on July 27. An opportunity for him to reach a new audience, without drawing a line under his authenticity, which we also find in his professional career.

I intended to do research

A good student, nothing predisposed this 25-year-old to abandon a ready-made school curriculum to pursue music. “I was destined to do research. I did a bachelor’s degree in organismal biology and a master’s degree in ecology and evolution. I was even offered a thesis,” he admits.

More than one string to his bow. Musician by day and educational assistant at the Biarritz hotel high school by night. The young people they supervise know his double life and are even interested in the projects: “They will listen to the pieces and then come and talk to me about it, it’s rather cute,” confides the musician.

Unfailing support

In his journey, one constant, the support of those close to him. He remembers: “It was one of my friends who financed the recording of my first EP at the Alimentation studio in Toulouse, he believed in me and my project. It was a real luxury, I’m really grateful.”

“So if I manage to make a living from my music, if I am true in what I do and if I find myself as a human in what I offer, I would have the feeling of having arrived where I should be and it will be a little thanks to them,” concludes the artist. No crash on the horizon for Hugo Ostro who will be able to keep his head in the clouds for a while longer.
