Summer in Formentera: what’s new for visitors
From June, and for the entire summer season, until September 30 2024, the rules of Formentera.eco, the project born in 2019 with the aim of promoting environmental protection for present and future generations. The reason for this regulation is simple: during the summer months of July and August, the high season period when the influx of visitors is greatest, as well as the number of tourists, the number of cars on the road also increases.
To ensure the future sustainability of Formenterafrom an environmental and economic point of view, the Formentera City Council has asked the Government to the Balearic Islands introduce an innovation normative at the national level, to allow the administration of the island to limit the entry of vehicles e regulate permits for traffic on local roads during the summer.
With this intervention, in addition to wanting to raise awareness of the importance of focusing on a model of sustainable tourism which preserves the untouched beauty of this jewel of Spain, it aims to maintain as much balance as possible between tourism and the daily life of locals, guaranteeing visitors the tranquility they expect to find.
Traffic rules in Formentera during the summer months
Travelers wishing to bring their own motor vehicle to the island will need to request permission via the portal Formentera.eco. New this year is the addition limitation of the number of cars which will be able to circulate on the island, for a maximum of 10,458 vehicles subject to regulations, for private use and rental.
