In Canada, WestJet Airlines announced Saturday evening the cancellation of 407 flights, delaying more than 49,000 passengers, due to the failure of the negotiation process between the company and its union. WestJet officials said they were trying to reduce their operational fleet to 30 planes by the end of Sunday, keeping their spacing overnight and into the next day.
Canadian Labor Minister Seamus O’Regan called on the two sides to reach a compromise, having previously called for negotiations, but as of Saturday evening the parties had failed to find common language. WestJet now continues to negotiate in hopes of resolving the dispute and restoring regular flight schedules.
