In Marmande, Fly’in Pop, the saviors of the Keen-V fiasco concert, will do it again

The misfortune of one person makes the happiness of others. For the six musicians of Fly’in Pop, that day was July 21. That Friday evening in the summer of 2023, nearly 9,000 people gathered at Filhole to come and applaud the singer Keen-V in free concert in Marmande.

The misfortune of one person makes the happiness of others. For the six musicians of Fly’in Pop, that day was July 21. That Friday evening in the summer of 2023, nearly 9,000 people gathered at Filhole to come and applaud the singer Keen-V in free concert in Marmande.

In the first part, for the local singers Cédric and Gaëlle, Mathias the keyboardist aka Mc Fly, Jean-Charles the bassist, Baptiste the drummer and Mickaël, the guitarist, aged 23 to 41, everything takes place more or less like on casters. “We had a little break at the end of the set, but we continued to sing. It’s part of the game,” JC remembers. “If we don’t want there to be any risks, we stay and listen to records at home,” adds Baptiste. An electrical problem which intensifies upon the arrival of the interpreter of “Valérie”.

A springboard

Five songs later, annoyed by this hiccup, the latter takes off. “Actually, the problem was fixed as he was leaving. We then went on stage with volunteers and improvised,” say the members of the group, specializing in covers of songs from the 80s to today.

With the DJ present, they “saved the furniture”. “We didn’t use the instruments again but as there was sound, we sang and had fun with the public”, recall the musicians, for whom the bad experience of some remains rather engraved in their heads like a great memory. A gesture also appreciated by the town hall of Marmande, which to thank them, offered them to return to the Filhole this summer, opening for Magic System this time, and promised to swear, without disappointment on July 21. And for those who have already applauded them, half of the pieces presented last year will be renewed, “out of respect for the public”.

“Make people dance”

“We have known about it for several months and we are so looking forward to it. It’s a mixture of excitement and pressure but it will further improve our visibility,” say Baptiste and Gaëlle. Especially since according to these local artists, the welcome from the Marmandaise municipality is very professional, compared to others practiced by the group.

“We always did covers to make people dance. This is the request we have”

Because they have scoured rooms and private parties since their creation eight years ago. At the start, Cédric, who officiates at Dolce Cubana, crosses paths with Gaëlle, during a karaoke in his establishment. It all starts with a perfectly decent proposal. “I always sang a little, but I mostly hid behind a music stand. He asked me if I wanted to play in a band and that was it! », confides the Marmandaise. With Mickaël on guitar, the two singers meet “for fun”, with each of their professions on the side. “We always did covers to make people dance. This is the demand we have,” the trio continues.

But little by little, Flyin Pop grew with the arrival of musicians who played in parallel in other groups. “We have very different influences, but everyone is there from Goldman to Armanet,” say Baptiste and Mathias, who rehearsed hard at the beginning of the month at the Petit Théâtre to refine their scene. . They will also be in concert for the music festival in Virazeil on June 21.
