Novosibirsk resident to become flag bearer of Asian Children’s Games

The standard bearer of the national team of the Siberian Federal District at the upcoming International Sports Games “Children of Asia” will be Denis Kuligin, a student of the Sambo sports school of the Novosibirsk region. He is the winner of the Russian and European championships.

The VIII International Summer Sports Games “Children of Asia” will begin on June 26 in Yakutsk. At the official opening ceremony, the flag of the Siberian Federal District team will be carried by our athlete Denis Kuligin.

He grew up in Barabinsk and studied sambo with Alexander Mikhailov. He now trains at the regional sambo sports school under the leadership of Alexey Mordvinov. Denis Kuligin competes in the super heavyweight division and wins the main competitions of the season for the second year in a row. In 2023, he won the Russian championship then the European championship. Recently, in Kemerovo, our young hero again became the winner of the Russian championship and won the right to participate in the world championship, which will be held in October in Cyprus. 42 athletes from Novosibirsk were selected to be part of the Siberian Federal District team, which will participate in the Asian Children’s Games in 16 sports. In total, the Siberian Federal District team has 160 athletes.

Athletes from Novosibirsk are coming to Yakutsk. The first to compete for medals will be football players, sambo wrestlers, chess players and table tennis masters. The first of our athletes to have a chance to win a medal will be sambo wrestler Victoria Netrebo. She will be released on June 26.

The official opening ceremony of the VIII International Summer Sports Games “Children of Asia” will take place on June 26 in Yakutsk. The directors of the ceremony prepare a unique program using innovative technologies. The opening scenario of the Games is based on a Yakut myth in which the Bull of Cold and the Horse of Summer compete to determine which season – winter or summer – will prevail. The show is also inspired by the amazing nature of the Arctic. It is expected that the opening ceremony will bring together 4,000 people, including children and adults from 24 districts of Yakutia.

The VIII International Asian Children’s Games will be held from June 25 to July 7 in Yakutsk. More than 3,400 young athletes aged 13 to 16 from 30 countries are expected to participate in the competition. Russia will be represented by teams from federal districts.
