According to a study published by the online insurer Leocare, based on 350,000 car and home contracts, prices increased on average by 8% to 12% in 2025. Concerning home insurance, owners are the first to be affected, with inflation of 9% to 12%, while tenants experience an increase of between 8% and 10%. These developments confirm data from other organizations: in 2024, UFC-Que Choisir already noted a jump of more than 7% for home multi-risk.
Bordeaux or La Rochelle among the most expensive cities
Medium-sized towns today appear to be the most expensive areas. According to Leocare, they combine high exposure to certain natural risks and sufficient density to multiply daily disasters. Municipalities like Carcassonne, La Rochelle, Avignon and Bordeaux are now among the most expensive. In Carcassonne, for example, insuring three-room accommodation costs around 256 euros per year for an owner, 180 euros for a tenant. Exposure to Mediterranean floods, but also to repeated droughts, largely explains these price levels.
